2012 Hancock Area Photo Contest and Exhibition
Seventh Annual Competition Fact Sheet
Purpose: To promote, encourage and recognize area photographers for excellence in photographic skills, and to promote community pride by exhibiting photos that characterize life in and around the town of Hancock, MD.
Sponsoring organizations: Hancock Rotary Club, Hancock Area Photo Club and War Memorial Library.
Subject matter should appropriately represent the town of Hancock, MD and the nearby areas on MD, PA and WV, i.e. persons, places or things that demonstrate the character, institutions, traditions and lifestyle of the town and the surrounding community. Buildings, memorials, persons, scenery, animals, sports, activities, parades, cemeteries etc. in the town of Hancock, and nearby areas are all appropriate subjects. Photos taken by entrants since January, 2007 will be accepted. Entrants will complete an entry form with relevant camera information, and submit appropriate contact information (phone number, email address (if available) and a mailing address.} Entry forms are available at the library and town hall. Each photo submitted will have affixed to the back the title, with the photographer’s name and phone number.
Eligibility: Participation is encouraged by photographers of any age, and all levels of competency (amateur or professional.) Two photos per entrant can be submitted at no cost. A $5 entree fee will be charged for each additional photo submitted. Only the judges are deemed ineligible.
Photo submissions will be at least 8 x10 inches in size, black and white or color, from digital or film cameras. Photos must be of high enough resolution and quality to be displayed clearly in an 8” x 10” or larger format. High quality computer prints are acceptable. See coordinator for sources of low cost 8 x 10 prints. Submissions do not need to be framed. Entrants agree to allow the free use of submitted photos to be reproduced in publications, newspapers, online, or in advertising for the photo contest and for the community. Photos submitted may also be exhibited in library, store window or other appropriate displays.

Time frames - Procedures - Prizes Submissions - Photos must be received by August 31, 2012. They can be delivered to the Town Hall office , or to Marilyn Pontius, librarian at the War Memorial Library in Widmeyer Park, or mailed to The Town of Hancock, c/o Photo Contest, 126 West High Street, Hancock, MD 21750. If return of the photos by mail is required, a self addressed postage paid mailing envelope must be provided. Entrants are responsible for following the delivery and pickup instructions outlined here. The ten to twelve photos that are judged to best meet the criteria above will be selected by Sept. 15 and the entrants so notified. Eight by ten photos selected will be matted and framed for display by the coordinator. The photographer of larger sized photos will be required to frame and mat their photos for viewing ( plain black frames with white mats.) The larger photos selected will be picked up at the library and returned for exhibition by Sept. 27. The 10 photos selected by the judges will be exhibited Oct. 1 till Dec. 31, 2012 at War Memorial Library following a reception where the winners will be announced. The Grand Prize Winner will receive $100. There will also be four winners of $25 prizes. Prize money is provided by the Hancock Rotary Club. All other photos selected for display will receive an Honorable Mention designation. All photos exhibited at the library or in a downtown window display will be picked up at the library between Jan. 1 and Jan. 15, 2013. Any photos not picked up will become the property of the Hancock Area Photo Club.

Photos submitted that are not picked up as specified, or for which return mailers and postage are not provided will become the property of the Hancock Area Photo Club.
